Techniques Used and how they came to my hands.

Strain Counterstrain

This manual therapy technique engages with a dis-regulated propioceptive system through passive movement while targeting and resolving specific tender points within the periosteum (these are different than trigger points) and interrupting the gamma gain pain cycle.

While attending massage school at Discovery Point School of Massage, my nervous system was already constantly humming. Pain was a visitor that had overstayed their welcome with no inclination to move along.

My hands were always in some state of nerve pain/tingling/numbness from a fall i experienced several years earlier.

One afternoon i approached my instructor Wimsey Cherrington, asking about what she did and could it help? After trying to explain this weird process, and seeing my deer in the headlights look, she commanded, “Eh, just get on the table.”. When she had attended several points, she told me to get up and see how things felt. The nerve sensation had dissipated and a rush of cool invigoration flooded into my right arm.

I scheduled two full sessions with her and the nerve pain has never returned.

We kept in touch and years later when she inquired if I wanted to take a class, I gleefully said YES!

Since then it has been the foundation of what i use, and is productive and long lasting in over 80% of clients.

Wimsey’s website and this paper have been the best explanation of Strain- Counterstrain that I’ve found, and I am so grateful this manual therapy system found me.

myo/Neuro-facial, Canio-Sacral

My hands were fortunate enough to be introduced to Dawn Schmidt early on in school. Watching her give demonstrations and how different they were from ‘regular massage’, my whole being resonated with YES!

Purposeful yet not forceful, movements are shaped by facial connections, energy and the subtle bodies of the clients. Hands are always listening, sometimes suggesting for the body to find balance and release.

Shortly after graduating Dawn offered and extensive whole body mentorship. Still dizzy with graduation and a debilitating injury, I jumped in and held onto as much as I could. This mentorship helped train my hands, before any other method sunk in, and I am forever grateful.

Further education in Cranio-sacral was calling my name and i sought out classes at Bastyr with Einat Arian and Catherine Oliver. Each class creates further clarity in my hands and intention in the body.

Lymphatic Drainage Technique

This technique aims to stimulate the lymphatice system and facilitate the ease of its flow throughout the body. It is a subtle and seldom thought of system, but it profoundly effects and communicates with nearly every system in our body and utilizing this treatment can greatly shift the experience of pain in the body among a myriad of other benefits.

My introduction to LDT happened while in school under the tutelage of Pete Connolly. His enthusiasm and the efficacy of the treatment instilled a curiosity and and commitment to the techniique

Further education via The Chikly Institute Level 1 August 2023, Level 2 June of 2024.

In February 2024 I also received my chest and breast massage certificate which includes lymphatic treatment of those tissues.
